We were living in Tomioka Town, 7.5 km away from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant at the time of 311.

The day after the earthquake and tsunami, we went out early in the morning by van to see the damage in the town. It was shocking to see gas and water pipes sticking vertically out of the road.

A jeep was approaching and the people in it were policemen. They were using loudspeakers to call out to the townspeople. Get out of here now. Run west."

The policemen were wearing gas masks. It just seemed strange somehow. We had no doubt in our minds that the reactor was in danger or that it was going to explode. That is how brainwashed we, the townspeople, or even the Japanese people as a whole, had been by the "nuclear safety myth.
