The Post WWII Healing Revival led by William Branham has been identified as the point of origin for countless religious cults and splinter groups of those cults. Many of the groups that were created as a result of those revivals give abnormal praise and even worship to specific men and women who either participated in or helped lead those revivals. In itself, the word “cult” or “cult following” is not unusual or troubling; though the word has become creepy and scary after the tragedy at Jonestown and other cult events, it simply means “a group of people dedicated to an individual or ideology”. These groups are simply people who are dedicated to their central figure.

Some of them, however, are classified as “destructive cults”. Doctor Steven Hassan developed the B.I.T.E. Model of Authoritarian Control for evaluating a cult to determine whether it is “safe”, “destructive”, or anywhere between. B.I.T.E. stands for Behavioral Control, Information Control, Thought Control and Manipulation, and Emotional Control. In his book, Combating Cult Mind Control, Dr. Hassan describes how to evaluate cult groups to determine whether or not a specific group is dangerous.

Using feedback from a sample of a very large number of former “Message” cult members from William Branham’s cult of personality, we prepared an evaluation of William Branham’s cult as it relates to the B.I.T.E. model and published it under the “Get Help” section of our website. We have also started evaluating splinter groups of William Branham’s cult and are finding that many of them also qualify as destructive cults and are dangerous.
