Why are there so many movie and TV reboots?

Hollywood has become creatively bankrupt. As such, they have been revisiting hit movies and TV shows and rebooting and repackaging past favorites for a modern audience. Is Hollywood using nostalgia to push their agendas? Or is it just a way to capture past glory?
