WTF is AJF Up to?! The Montecristo 1935 Anniv. Nicaragua Series Toro - CIGAR REVIEWS by CigarScore

I don’t normally put much stock into top 10 lists, and I rarely care what other “experts” have to say about cigars. But, when Cigar Aficionado put out their Top 25 Cigars of 2021, one of the cigars caught my eye.

So today, we’re going to review the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Series Toro, which was blended by AJ Fernandez and earned the #2 spot for CA.

As soon I removed the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Series Toro from its cellophane, I knew this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill Montecristo. The 1935 Anniversary has a dark and textured Nicaraguan wrapper leaf that’s absolutely riddled with toothiness.

With a quick guillotine cut, the draw resistance and the cold draw flavors were of cedar. When torched, the smell of the smoke of the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Series was very smokey and campfire-esque.

When I dove in and started smoking, the flavors were bold and a little sweet, with spice on the retrohale.

Can we expect an hour and a half of smoke time with this cigar? And, is the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Series Toro worth almost $17? Let’s find out.

Final Thoughts

After a short but delicious 53 minutes, it was time to put the $17 Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Series Toro down.

Regardless of the short smoke time, the overall construction of the cigar was great. The burn was even, the draw was perfect, and those 53 minutes were quite enjoyable. Perhaps the short smoke time was due to the box-pressed vitola. Additionally, the flavors were bold and spicy, but I really enjoyed them.

While I would’ve preferred a longer smoke time, the overall experience outweighs any complaints I have about this cigar. I really enjoyed it, so the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Series Toro earns a CigarScore 5.
