Weep Not For Me

(28) But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. (29) For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. (30) Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. (31) For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

Jesus Christ was not rebuking the mourning women, but telling them that there is a dangerous day coming when it would be better if women had no children. In part, He is referring to the coming day in 70 AD when Jerusalem would be destroyed by the Roman army. And it is a reference to the Great tribulation when the world is judged and there is wide spread destruction and death. It will be a day where people will refuse to repent of their sins against the Almighty God and instead call upon the mountains and the hills to fall over them and cover them – in a vain attempt to hide from the LORD God. Weep, o weep, because those days are coming soon.
