Kayak & Outrigger paddle to Anacapa Island
This is a video about Mike Dean and myself paddling to Frenchy's Cove on Anacapa Island, across the face of Anacapa, and back to Oxnard. This was a 32 mile trip with most of it in the open ocean. I have wanted to paddle to Anacapa Island for a while now, and I ran across a must-see video of Mike Dean paddling to Anacapa Island by himself in extremely rough conditions. The trip starts with him leaving the harbor in Oxnard in very harsh conditions with this happy music playing in the background. As I watched the video, it put a big smile on my face, and I decide I need to get to know this guy and see if he would be willing to do the trip again and let me tag along. I contacted Mike threw youtube to see if he would be will to do it, and he was. We agreed that on the next day with exceptional conditions we would do the trip. This last Sunday was that day (10/1/17), so I loaded up my gear and headed to pick Mike up at his house. The plan was to leave the harbor at sunrise, but as usual, I was running late, and we didn't leave the harbor until about 8:00 am. This video is the long version of this trip, but Mike has made a much better short version where he combines the footage shot by both of us and shows just the highlights.
