The novel was written by Vladimir Nabokov. in 1955 and the book was quite controversial. Not sure why it became so popular but anyways.

The protagonist and unreliable narrator, a middle-aged literature professor under the pseudonym Humbert Humbert, is obsessed with a 12-year-old American girl, Dolores Haze, whom he sexually molests after becoming her stepfather. "Lolita" is his private nickname for Dolores.
