Composed in 1873. What an anointed and historic song. I can't explain the emotions this song pulls on me when I sing it. I kept being drawn to it not knowing much about it. Then realizing the Lord truly was drawing me to it, I prayed and asked Him what was special to Him about it. While singing it I felt He was showing me it was the story behind it and the author He watched write it. So I stopped singing it and did a little research. Oh my goodness. The song was inspired from a man who lost all of his children, 1 son in the Chicago Fire and 4 daughters at see from a sinking ship. Think of that and read the lyrics. Amazing how such tragedy can make something as beautiful as this song. I pray this song inspires you to see beyond your trials into the beauty of all the Lord has given you with all His promises to turn your tragedies around into something beautiful. He sure has turned mine around. Take hope and faith in Him and believe for your miracles.

After suffering the loss of his children, Spafford wrote this beautiful hymn as a testament to the salvation he found in Jesus through the good and bad times in life.
