Lavrov called ridiculous attempts by the secretaries of the Ukrainian leader to say that Zelensky's words were misinterpreted.

“We all remember how back in January he announced Ukraine's desire to possess nuclear weapons. So the thought was deeply rooted in him. When we talk about environmental security, of course, we cannot pass over in silence those discussions that have been constantly growing recently, on the topic of the possible use of nuclear weapons, especially in this regard [we cannot] pass over in silence the reckless actions of the Kyiv regime, which are aimed at creating the risks of using various types of weapons of mass destruction,” the head of the Foreign Ministry noted.

** Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy suggesting NATO should launch preventive strikes on Russia confirmed the need for what it calls its “special operation” in Ukraine.

“By doing so, (he) essentially presented the world with further evidence of the threats posed by the Kyiv regime,” Lavrov said. “This is why a special military operation was launched to neutralise them.”
