The primary mechanisms cited were 1) the amount of screen time people spend on their phones takes time away from sleep and connecting with others 2) Social media users are subjected to thousands of targeted advertisements per day 3) Social isolation caused by using headphones and missing out on conversations and shared experiences 4) Non-stop feed of (mostly negative) news and political spin
