So, it looks gross, you say! The roots can't breathe, you say! There is not gas exchange, no oxygen coming to the roots etc etc... what am I referring to? Mini phalaenopsis coming in a pot that is packed to the hilt in sphagnum moss, and old sphagnum moss at that. The sphagnum moss is old, the mini phalaenopsis seems to be doing great and the roots are fabulous! So, why the urgency to unpot a mini phalaenopsis from a pot full of old sphagnum moss? Because the moss is old? Maybe! But when you do repot it, and pot your mini phalaenopsis back into loose, fresh and fluffy sphagnum moss, she starts to struggle, the roots start to rot... or maybe not, but why do mini phalaenopsis not do well in sphagnum moss, especially after a repot?
