How to Identify & Avoid Cannabis Mould
How to identify and avoid cannabis mould!
One or a dual combination of problems is the usual reason why you may have cannabis
mould.
However, let’s be sure that you have got mouldy cannabis and that it isn’t just buds that are
overly rich in white, sticky trichomes – lucky you!
The early formation of mould will see small black dots appearing on the buds.
Thereafter, a yellow, brown or grey fuzzy growth will appear on the buds.
Beyond this, chances are your cannabis will stink, and not of a pleasant terpenes-rich aroma,
just rotting cannabis.
Don’t just check your cannabis in ordinary daylight, use a torch to give you an ultra-clear
look at what is really going on.
Using a torch will make it very clear if you just have lots of trichomes, or if mould has got
your cannabis firmly gripped.
Chances are, your mould will have begun before harvesting, and often growers have their
cannabis in to too humid an environment.
Then, when it comes to the drying process, if this isn’t completed effectively and what you
store away still has moisture in it, can lead the beginnings of mould.
Don’t store your cannabis in plastic bags – you will be surprised just how much moisture can
actually penetrate a plastic bag, especially if it is not hermetically sealed. Tying a knot in the
bag doesn’t create a hermetic seal!
We recommend only storing your cannabis in glass jars with an airtight lid – mason jars are
the perfect type, though tinted glass is always going to be a best option, and it is difficult to
get coloured mason jars.
Don’t store your cannabis in a warm or cold room, or in daylight. Store it away in a cupboard
where the temperature is likely to remain constant and keep the temperature below 23
degrees Celsius as above that creates the perfect environment for mould.
Try to keep your humidity level between 50% and low 60%. Going lower than this will
definitely reduce the risk of mould, but you’ll end up with cannabis that has been dried out
way too much!
Finally, don’t pack small amounts of cannabis in large jars. You want to pack any jar as full as
you can as without air, mould can’t thrive.
Therefore, as you begin to use your cannabis, it pays to move it into smaller jars on a regular
basis.
So, now you have no excuses for mouldy cannabis. Now, about that mouldy bread in the
cupboard...
