I mowed the grass the previous day to add the grass clippings into the compost bin. But first I need to empty of the compost bin and layer the materials back to be able to rebuild the bin. The grass clippings add nitrogen to the bin. Which is the fuel for the bacteria. They also need air and water like us. When the bacteria has fuel, air, and water the bin will be active and get hot. The reason you want the bin to get hot is so that it is able to kill off weed seeds and pathogens, leaving you with a great compost that can be added to your garden soil. Pictures at the end of the video showing the highest temperature reached after turning, it was on day 4.
