Splinterlands is classified as a trading game and it an addition to the all the play-to-earn games in the NFT world. It originally came out before this current NFT surge in popularity back around mid 2018 and was previously known as Steem Monsters.

So because it’s a play-to-earn game, it runs on the blockchain – in this case it’s the Hive blockchain and the cards you earn or buy are actually NFTs, which can have scarcity – because there’s a limited amount of each card ever made, so you may buy a deck of cards next week for about $2, then find a rare or legendary card… or even a basic card, which may sell today for $10 or 3 years from now it could be worth $1000! There’s also different tokens you can collect which have value too!

So in Splinterlands, players will fight against other players and their selected monsters to get in-game rewards. So each time you win, you get rewards and you also get daily airdrops of free tokens and daily quests which can earn you cards or in game currency.
