The Black Little Mermaid Makes Me Ask, Is this Blackwashing? | Random Things You Need to Know

In July 2022, the trailer for the new #TheLittleMermaid2023 movie was presented to the world. Singer #HalleBailey a black woman, will play #Ariel. This made people upset and angry because Ariel originally was white. The question we have is this: doesn’t the new wokeness teach everyone that not putting the right race or gender or sexual whatever in a movie role of the same identity is somehow discrimination? But why is it that that rule does not extend to white characters being portrayed by POCs or heterosexuals being played by gays?
