Why Do Modern Women Have A Problem With Men's Preferences?

I'm of two minds about how women approach men's preferences. On the one hand, I feel like women never seem to actually accept what guys say they want - and instead, assume men are lying or don't know what they want. But on the other hand, when a guy rejects a woman because her looks aren't up to his standard (especially if it's clear he's lying), it makes me sad every time. My question is this: why do modern women have such a big problem with men's preferences? Are they really that insecure that they think their bodies aren't good enough or their personalities aren't attractive enough? Do they just reject men assuming those men are lying or have somehow been brainwashed by the media? Or is this just an easy way for them to offload personal responsibility for being rejected to another entity - i.e. society - rather than accepting it as some real flaw in themselves?
