The report from Whole Foods, now in its seventh year, projects that ultra-urban farming, yuzu, pescetarianism (eating less meat, dairy, fish, and eggs, but not completely), buzz-less spirits (no or low alcohol), moringa, and sunflower seeds will take 2022 by storm and continue to gain popularity.
A Trends Council of more than 50 Whole Foods Market team members, which includes local foragers, regional and global buyers, culinary experts, and people with decades of experience in product sourcing and studying consumer preferences, as well as in-depth workshopping with new and established brands, compiles trend predictions each year.
Foods and drinks with a focus on health and nutrition, innovations in the baby food industry, an increase in upcycled foods, and alcoholic kombucha were among the 2021 trends predicted by Whole Foods.
