Quickie: New York Times v. Sullivan

When supporters of Martin Luther King took out a full page ad in the New York Times that was full of falsehoods, Montgomery, Alabama Police Commissioner L. B. Sullivan sued.

The Supreme Court found that the First Amendment protects speech critical of public figures, even if it's false, as long as it's the office and not the person who's the target.
