If you haven’t seen a building walking, this is your chance.

An old building in Shanghai was relocated on a walking-style robot to make way for Shanghai’s new commercial center. 85-year-old Lagena Primary School was moved to a new location and it took 18 days for the relocation project to be completed.

Generally, huge buildings like this are moved using giant slide rail or flatbed relocation, but because of the irregular shape of the building, neither is applicable. After a series of discussions, it was concluded that a walking-style procedure will work for the building.

The supports moved like a walking man. The Lagena Primary School was built in 1935. The 7,000-tonne building was supported by 200 devices that moved like a man walking.

In September 2019, the Construction of the Pacific Xintiandi Commercial Center project started, which required the school to be moved to a new site. The Pacific Xintiandi Commercial Centre is expected to open in 2023. This hub is designed to be a new one-stop lifestyle center.
