The Day I Walked Across an Underground Lake at Gibraltar

Deep inside The Rock of Gibraltar is an underground cave system with a lake that is millions of years old. Over the course of time the water level rises and falls depending on the amount of rain received.
I had to walk across two thin boards propped up on the rocks, and then a small rock ledge in order to get to the very last chamber of the cave system at Gibraltar. This tiny ledge was not easy to traverse, nor were the areas to grab in order to not fall in.
You can't see it but at one point, well twice, I almost fell in, but that was when I was behind the pillar and not visible to the camera.

Overall this was an amazing experience caving at the St. Michael's Cave at Gibraltar. Such a cool experience to be deep inside The Rock of Gibraltar!

There was a way out, but I was stuck in the middle so I had to wait my turn to get out. The whole process was safe with our guide and it was so much fun!

The upper caves are open for tourists who have purchased the entrance into the Upper Reserve at The Rock of Gibraltar. If you take a van tour you will more than likely get to tour the inside of St. Michael's Cave.

This tour, however, is private and has to be set up outside of the normal entrance prices. I'm not sure how that works, as I was invited to join on this particular day. And it was literally one of the best experiences of my life!

The group I was with was lots of fun, polite and helpful. We all had a blast, and I think all of us were quite surprised at just how difficult it was climbing through these caves. Overall, this was an awesome time with lots of fun and excitement throughout the 2 hour climb into St. Michael's Cave at Gibraltar.
