(Patience as the Groundwork of Our Ministry)

Intro:
Define – Patience, Longsuffering
Bible verses – Patience, Patient

Why Should We Have Patience and what Good does it bring personally/corporately?
1. Those that don’t have it can expect misery – vv. 1-6
a. This is especially observable on the ‘rich men’ of this world – they are often warned
b. Riches gotten without patience will ruin anyone – ‘corrupted’
c. Note: ‘kept back by fraud’
d. Expect destruction: ‘day of slaughter’
2. The Fruit of Patience is Precious – v.7
a. Expect result after long waiting
3. Patience do Establish us
a. As a Person with strong, good character
b. Sample: establishments – business, institutions, church, governments, family
4. Patience is not only just waiting – do good while at it
a. Things to avoid
i. Grudging – v.9;
ii. swearing falsely/needlessly – vv. 12-13
b. Things to Do/Emulate
i. Follow steps of Men of God who had Patience - vv. 10-11
1. Job, Elijah (vv. 17-18)
ii. Give glory to the Lord for success –v.13
iii. Be patient with the sick/weak – help them – vv. 14-15
iv. Repent/confess/forsake sins/faults – v.16
v. Pray – v.16
vi. Be righteous – v.16
vii. Win souls – v.20
5. The Lord Will Return Soon – with His rewards (vv.7,8; Rev. 22:12)
a. Nigh/Near – soon
Message/conclusion:
Let us know/understand the importance of this virtue, get and keep it, be patient!
