From The Magna Carta to Article V Convention of States 👈 - A short history of how we got here
Our Founding Documents & The Magna Carta
The first English settlers to arrive on our shores brought with them the basic freedoms and rights
enshrined in the Magna Carta, and 572 years after Magna Carta, their heirs drafted the declaration of
independence at a convention that first met in 1776 at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia (now known as Independence Hall), and again 11 years later to draft our constitution, in 1787. 🇺🇸
The Bill of Rights was proposed by the Congress that met in Federal Hall in New York City in 1789.
Thomas Jefferson was the principal drafter of the Declaration and James Madison of the Bill of
Rights.⚡
Devine Intervention
I have always believed that divine intervention was part of this historic first of its kind process. The
declaration, the constitution and the bill of rights were all based on the belief that all people have
fundamental rights, including some of the rights enshrined in the Magna Carta, natural rights which
our founders believed came from God.👈
George Landrith writing for Constituting America said, “A bit of history about Magna Carta — its full
name was Magna Carta Libertatum which is Latin for “Great Charter of Freedoms.” But it became
commonly known as simply Magna Carta or the “Great Charter.”
It was written in 1215 to settle an
intense political dispute between King John of England and a group of barons who were challenging King John’s absolute right to rule.
The terms of the charter were negotiated, and when they reached agreement on June 15, 1215, the document was signed by King John and the barons at Runnymede outside of London.

Article 5 Convention of States
What would our founders think today if they could see what our government has become, a
government that was created to ensure our liberty and freedoms would be protected, now actively
works to deny many of those same freedoms!
Our founders provided us with two ways to amend the constitution, congress may call for a convention, or our state legislatures may call a convention via an Article V, Convention of States.
A Solution as Big as the Problem
Washington is broken. Here at Convention of States we have a solution as big as the problem. An Article V Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to PROPOSE constitutional amendments.
These are our three, simple talking points.
1. Limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government (including the president)
2. Limit the terms of office for federal officials
3. Limit the ability of Congress and the president to spend and waste our hard-earned money, via a
(Balanced Budget Amendment)
