UK Constituency Strategy:

Conservative Party membership is now 190,000, representing just 0.003% of the population. The average local conservative association therefore has less than 300 members, most of whom do not attend and vote at association meetings.

This apathy has rendered the Conservative Party vulnerable to entryism by conservatives in name only. It also presents an opportunity for genuine conservatives to take back control of our party and country in time for the next general election, which must occur before January 2025. There are also local elections on 4 May 2023.

You can take the following steps to take back our UK Conservative Party.

1. Join the Conservative Party and your local Conservative Association, citizenship is not required, and encourage others to join. You can do so via www.conservatives.com/join

2. Learn the Conservative Party Constitution, see files section and obtain your local Association Constitution.

3. Attend local Association meetings, in particular the AGM to select your Association’s Chairman and Executive Councillors, to nominate candidates for these roles and to put yourself forward. The Executive shortlists candidates for local and general elections, decides policy and nominates Officers to the Regional Party, which then nominates delegates to the National Conservative Convention.

4. Propose candidates for local and general elections and consider putting yourself forward. See the file section for guidance on becoming a Councillor.

5. Attend local association hustings to select your candidate for the next general election.

6. Assist with campaigning and canvassing to secure victory.

7. You can apply to join additional local Conservative Associations to assist the Conservative Constituency Strategy beyond your local area.

8. Avoid being accused of entryism by focussing on promoting and developing existing Conservative Parliamentary groups, e.g. European Research Group, Covid Recovery Group, Net Zero Scrutiny Group and Conservative Way Forward.
