UPDATE: OS 35 Bulk Carrier Sinking off Coast of Gibraltar

The OS 35 is a bulk carrier that is sinking/has been beached off the east coast of Gibraltar. The OS 35 was involved in a collision in The Bay of Gibraltar at the end of August 2022. The ship suffered damage to its hull and the port master sent the ship round to the east side of The Rock for Observation.

Upon further investigation, the crew were evacuated and emergency measures were put into place. Gibraltar went into speedy action to remove all fuel and hazards on board the ship while implementing a boom system to contain any oil or fuel.

As of today, 19 October 2022, the ship has been beached so that both the front and back end are sitting on the sand under the water. The situation continues to be monitored and updated by HM Government of Gibraltar. HM Government of Gibraltar has been working diligently and keeping the public updated to this ongoing issue with the OS 35 Bulk Carrier.

In my personal opinion I am thankful that HM Government of Gibraltar reacted so quickly to avert an even bigger disaster that could have happened. They have been doing a great job keeping the public informed and continuing with clean up and containment efforts.
