Passenger injured after plane shot at in Myanmar 🇲🇲

A passenger plane belonging to the national airline of Myanmar, Myanmar National Airlines, was shot at during it’s approach to Loikaw airport in the country. The incident happened on September 30, 2022. A passenger on that plane was injured as result of a stray bullet that entered the cabin through the fuselage. He sustained an injury to his ear.

The ATR-72 with registration XY-AML however was also struck with visible damage on the exterior and interior. It was able to safely land at Loikaw airport and was then subsequently taken out of service until today, as there are no flights recorded for this plane since. Since damage seems minor, it’s expected the four year old plane will be repaired and put back into service.

It is not known who fired on the plane, but the country has seen widespread unrest after the February 1, 2021 coup d’etat by the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Myanmar.
