Priced at just £17.99 before discounts, this 18M (59ft) set of indoor/outdoor globe lights seem better made than most, built to last and hopefully will not need to be replaced every year. They have an attractive design with small transparent globes housing the 160 LED’s which are warm white and add a pleasant effect to the summer garden or home. The set I selected is warm white but a multicoloured version is also available.

Presentation in an attractive and well-designed box is nice containing the 18m length LED string set with hard-wired combined battery/Solar Panel/control box, and ground/wall mount. No user guide was included in the set I received and none was needed. The 1.8cm diameter globes are very attractive and far better than bare LED’s and although made from some form of plastic or resin, they do look like they are made from glass. The globes themselves are spaced at 15 cm intervals giving a total length of 18M including a 2M lead.

The lights are powered by an 800mAh NI-MH battery built into the control box, with the solar panel on the top supported by the ground spike mount. It should take 6-8 hours of sunlight to charge the battery enough for 8-12 hours of nighttime use. The light sensor in the control panel will turn the unit on automatically at dusk and off in the morning.

The unit is operated by two buttons on the underside of the control box, one to turn it On/Off and the other to scroll through the eight available lighting modes. Unlike with some rivals I have tested I was pleased to see that the buttons are clearly identified although the current button settings are not which makes it hard to tell if the power button is Off or if the battery is dead. The lighting modes are combination, waveform, sequence, slow light, chase/flash, slow fading, blink/flash, and steady. The integrated memory function will remember the last mode used and revert to it when next used.

The lighting string is IP65 water-resistant, enough to keep it protected from everything the British weather can throw at it. It should be fine for winter use but I will probably keep mine indoors through the dark northern winter where I live and bring it out again in the spring.

Once in position, the warm white lighting set does look good, aided perhaps by the large size of the glass effect lighting globes. Certainly, when correctly positioned they can add some real style to your garden or patio. If you need a set of decent quality robust outdoor globe string lights then this would be a very decent buy.
