Crimea already seceded from Ukraine to Russia in 2014 just before newly-elected (and Lindsey Graham and John McCain backed) Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko publicly declared genocide on Eastern Ukraine during his inauguration (which prompted Anne-Laure's first documentary, 'Donbass').

The Eastern region of Ukraine had originally belonged to Russia until a treaty in the early 1900s removed them from Russia, giving them to Ukraine, which is why these regions are heavy in Russian ethnicity.

Some Ukrainians throughout the rest of the country remained loyal to the Nazi movement even to this day - and had been growing in numbers.
