The Book of Judith is an apocryphal book, included in the Septuagint and the Roman Catholic and all Orthodox Bibles. It tells of a Jewish widow, Judith, who uses her beauty and charm to destroy an Assyrian general and save Israel from oppression. Some scholars consider the book non-historical: a parable, or a novel. The name Judith (Hebrew: יְהוּדִית‎, meaning "Praised" or "Jewess") is the feminine form of Judah.
