Looks like the left engine was hit by a missile. The pilot's daftness degree is high. The Mi-8 has a system where the remaining engine seamlessly takes over rotating the rotor, as we can see the chopper remains flying fine.
The pilot should have just cut the fuel feed to both engines and to perform a routine autorotation landing on the spot right away, and have the crew escape though the rear clamshell doors. Instead he wastes precious seconds and kills everyone.
