CHICO UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD 4/21/21: GREAT ADVICE FROM THIS CHICO 7th GRADER

On the agenda for the 4/21/21 Chico Unified School District meeting was a proposal to open for full-time in person learning starting Fall, 2021. The minutes are below.

HER PARENTS HAVE TAUGHT THEIR DAUGHTER HOW IMPORANT IT IS TO GIVE FEEDBACK TO ELECTED OFFICIALS!

1. DISCUSSION/ACTION: Chico Unified School District Reopening Plan for the 2021-22 School Year
At 6:25 p.m. Assistant Superintendent Jay Marchant stated Chico Unified School District is planning for a return to full-day, in-person instruction for the 2021-22 school year. Oak Bridge Academy will continue to be the dedicated online learning option for families. Elementary and secondary educational programs, guidelines and schedules were discussed.

At 7:17 p.m. Board President Robinson opened the floor to public comment. Five speaker cards were submitted, but only three speakers provided public comment on Agenda Item 10.1.1. for a total of nine minutes of public comment.

Board Vice President Kaiser moved to approve the Chico Unified School District Reopening Plan; seconded by Board Member Tennis. Board Member Tennis made a friendly amendment to remove the AM/PM and online schedules from the Reopening Plan. The friendly amendment was not accepted and Board Member Tennis removed his second on the motion.

Board Vice President Kaiser made a motion to approve Agenda Item 10.1.1. Chico Unified School District Reopening Plan for the 2021-22 School Year; seconded by Board Clerk Lando.

Board Member Dalby made an amended motion to add or change the AM/PM to an A Day/B Day Model should the district be mandated to return to a hybrid instructional model; seconded by Board Member Tennis.

The amended motion on the floor is to approve the Reopening Plan for the 2021-22 School Year, with the addition of developing an A/B alternative schedule for consideration in the hybrid instructional model before the 2021-2022 school year begins.

At 7:58 p.m. Board President Robinson called the meeting back to order.
