Gouache : Crouching Pumpkin Hidden Ninjas! Painting Tutorial

Finally got around to painting an official Halloween image that wasn't part of any art challenge or prompts list.

Pumpkin Head : I start with a watery Light orange base, then a watery orange overlay, and a less watery dark grey orange. Then I interchange between these three according to which color I think I need most. If I have too much of one tone, I paint over it with another and blend them. I keep the water content of my brush low so that there is more paint pigment that piles on top of the bottom layer without creating a puddle and or ruining the paper.

Body: I tried covering the whole outfit in a straight blue and then added highlights and shadows but the blue was blending into the background so I made the entire outfit a lighter grey blue, then added dark grey blue for shadows and then added pale blue for highlights.

Hands : Orange like the pumpkin
Swords : creamy yellow base with creamy lavender highlights and a dark grey blue body line to contrast

Feet : cream orange, flat orange, dark grey orange

NInjas : creamy lavender
