Ukrainian authorities are preventing some Kherson residents who fled the hostilities from returning home to the now-Russian city, the Washington Post discovered while speaking to refugees in the Kiev-controlled city of Zaporozhye.

Western media have claimed for months that Russia forcibly removed people from their homes in the region – accusations that Moscow denounced as false and cynical, citing the risk to life for people in the conflict zone.
