Hemiplegia is not an independent disease, but a neurological symptom that can accompany various diseases and injuries, which consists in limiting the sensorimotor function of the upper and lower extremities on one side of the body. Complete paralysis occurs when the patient's arm, leg, face, torso, or one side of the entire body is affected.

failures in the manifestation of some reflexes (for example, swallowing);

distorted facial expressions, sluggish and fuzzy speech.
If hemiplegia has come as a result of a stroke, the patient faces many difficulties. In a sense, he has to learn to live again. Some patients lose the skill of self-care, are unable to concentrate when performing the simplest actions (for example, fastening buttons or combing), lose the ability to express their thoughts and emotions. In severe cases, urinary and stool incontinence is possible.
The severity of some symptoms depends on which part of the brain has been destroyed. With the defeat of the right side, the ability to physically control one's body suffers more. If the lesion touched the left hemisphere, speech suffers, as well as the ability to certain skills, the intellect is disturbed.
In children, such disorders significantly impede not only physical, but also mental and intellectual development.
