Why should private firms not run NHS hospitals?

What would the problem be if a private firm ran a hospital for the NHS? Most hospitals are built by private firms. The drugs are supplied by private firms. All the equipment such as beds are supplied by private firms. A lot of nurses are agency staff from private firms. So what is the harm? They probably would give a better service and be far more efficient.
