Hyperadobe Off Grid House Design | Developing The Property | Episode 23 #offgrid #homesteading

Hi - We are Douglas and Keri…follow us as we make the move from our urban home near Denver, Colorado to our off grid property in Southeast Arizona.

We are working on the initial design of the house and here is what we will cover today:

1. Location of the house with the contours of the land and tracking the sun.
-We want to maximize the sunlight in the Winter
-There will likely be no windows on the hill side of the home to the North.
-We will locate the house on a slight incline about halfway up a hill for good drainage.
-We are maximizing the incredible views to the South and to the East on the property.
-We are making sure to stay far away from neighboring property lines.

2. This plan is not set in stone! We have already changed the plans
several times and this is the one we like best so far.

3. We have decided to incorporate Zone 2 inside and around the
immediate outside of the house. This is for protection of the plants we will
have in there as well as provides a safe space for our doggos :)

4. In Episode 15 we talked about the possibility of having the cistern
inside of a shed and after more research and great feedback from our
watchers (thank you!), we have decided against that and the cisterns on
the property will be freestanding.

5. The first structures (after the driveway and fence) we will be building
will be on the West side of the property which will be the tool shed, cistern,
and the guest house.

6. This plan doesn’t have the windows or covered walkways included
and we also are not going to talk about heating/cooling yet because we
have not figured that all out yet!

7. We plan on terracing the house according to the slope and contour
of the property…we will know more about this once we are physically on
the property which should be very soon!
