Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez scored goals in the second half to help City defeat Chelsea 2-0 and advance to the Carabao Cup fourth round.

With a deft free kick from the edge of the area, Mahrez gave the game its first goal, leaving Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy helpless.

Five minutes later, after Mendy had denied the Algerian winger, Julian Alvarez was in the ideal place to score on the rebound.

A clean sheet was maintained by Stefan Ortega Moreno, who was making his third start for the team after signing in the offseason.
