West uses Putin’s birthday to ramp up demonisation and personal attacks

The western media insist on painting a thoroughly misleading picture of the Russian president as an isolated and unstable dictator, holed up in his palace and giving increasingly erratic orders that no-one outside is brave enough to contradict. This blatantly and disrespectfully false storyline may provide useful fodder to Hollywood producers promoting the new cold war, but it’s hardly helpful to anyone trying to make sense of the world as it really is. More worrying still is the apparent prevalence of such narratives amongst those who are tasked with the conduct of British foreign policy and diplomacy.
