Politics Jake Sullivan and Bill Burns and their undeclared meetings with Russian Counterparts

Why is every punter trying to maker a big issue out of the recent meetings of Jake Sullivan and Bill Burns with their Russian Counterparts. These events mean nothing for "Peace negotiations". What can they offer Russia? Nothing!
Putin has not attained his stated goals in Ukraine. So what is the point?
Most likely they discussed other things such as "Nuclear Escalation", the Kiev "Dirty Bomb" or discussed what Russian would consider "Escalatory Weapons" to be delivered by the US to Ukraine. Who knows?
