Jak II (PS3) Gameplay

I remembered something really important when playing this footage....I hate Jak II. I've never liked it, and I still don't. While I did play pretty far into Jak 3, and came out liking it, Jak II has never kept my interest very long. I know that some people think this was a bold step for Naughty Dog to move the series forward, but I don't.

I loved the original Jak & Daxter, and the Jak-Theft-Auto gameplay in Jak II has always sucked in my opinion. This was a terrible decision if you ask me. I do remember liking Jak 3, but when it comes to shooter/Platformer hybrids, the Ratchet & Clank series did it so much better while keeping it within the platforming genre. Insomniac expanded upon the original Ratchet, adding so many addictive elements, while keeping arguably the best platformer designs and gameplay of the 6th generation.

Jak went in a different direction, being a derivative GTA3 clone, with a whole lot less interesting things to do, and a whole lot worse vehicle controls with the sequel, and I think the series suffered as a result. Honestly, there were so many better directions Naughty Dog could have gone with this series, and the end result in my opinion is that Ratchet got better, and better with each new sequel, Jak got worse with Jak II, and Jak 3 is better than Jak II, but still not a great sequel to the original. They could have at least borrowed the weapon controls from Ratchet.

Look, if you love this game, to each their own, however, I have given it enough chances over the years, and have never cared for it. If you like it, you like it, and don't let my dislike of it bother you. Some people really did love this game, I am not one of those people.
