History of qutub minar

Qutub Minar / Kutub Minar complex is one of the must-visit places around Delhi. This complex has many historically significant monuments such as Qutub Minar tower, Alai Darwaza, Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, Iron Pillar, Tomb of Iltutmish, Alauddin Khilji tomb and madrasa. This complex is also one of the UNESCO world heritage sites present in India.

With the height of 73 m tall, Qutab Minar is one among
the 38 Unesco World Heritage sites in India.
The first Muslim ruler of Delhi Qutab-ud-din Aibak commenced the construction during 1193
Firoz Shah Tughlak completed the minar by 1368
Qutab Minar is 14.3 m diameter at the base and just 2.7 m at the top.
The first 3 stories are made of red sandstone; the fourth and fifth stories are of marble and sandstone.
"Iron Pillar of Delhi" is famous for its rust-resistant feature which has survived for more than 1600 years.
Believed to be originally constructed under
the reign of King Chandragupta Maurya during 400CE,
this pillar weighs over 3,000 kg

Qutub Mosque( Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque) was the first mosque built in Delhi
Construction of which started in the year 1193 AD

Since it was built using the ruins of 27 Hindu and Jain temples,
arches and pillars have Hindu/Jain style carvings

a madrasa built by him is situated next to the tomb

The tomb of Iltutmish, a second Sultan of Delhi was built during 1235 CE is also part of the Qutb Minar Complex

Alai Minar, an ambitious tower commissioned by Alauddin Khilji was supposed to be two times higher than Qutub Minar
The construction was abandoned, after the completion of the 24.5m first-story core; soon after the death of Alauddin in 1316
