The controversial movie The Woman King glosses over a far more interesting, historically accurate story of a slaver African nation in favor of a female empowerment fantasy. By no means a great film, it actually still does a decent job with some character work and the acting, building a simple narrative about a sisterhood of women warriors. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Starring Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, and John Boyega
