Reunification of Russia and Donbas should have happened earlier, Putin admitted

The reunification of Russia and Donbass should have happened earlier; in 2014, the country did not fully feel the mood of the people. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the mothers of servicemen who participated in the special operation.

"As far as 2014 is concerned, of course, in hindsight, we know everything now, but we proceeded from the assumption that it might be possible to come to terms, that Lugansk and Donetsk would be able to reunite with Ukraine somehow within the framework of the Minsk agreements. We were sincerely working towards this, but we didn’t fully feel the mood of the people, it was impossible to understand what was happening there," Putin said on Friday at a meeting with the mothers of servicemen participating in the special military operation.

"Now, it has become pretty obvious that this reunification should have happened earlier. Maybe there would not have been so many civilian casualties, and there would not have been so many children killed by bombardments," Putin said.

Воссоединение России и Донбасса должно было произойти раньше, в 2014 году страна не до конца чувствовала настроение людей. Об этом на встрече с матерями военнослужащих – участников спецоперации заявил президент РФ Владимир Путин.

Российский лидер отметил, что в 2014 году власти РФ исходили из того, что Луганск и Донецк в рамках Минских договоренностей сможет договориться с Киевом. 

"Мы искренне к этому шли. Но мы же не чувствовали до конца настроение людей. До конца невозможно было понять, что там происходит", – сказал Путин.

Президент РФ отметил, что воссоединение должно было бы произойти раньше.

"Может быть, и не было бы столько потерь среди мирных граждан, не было бы столько погибших детей под обстрелами", – заявил Путин
