Catfish are a varied group of ray-finned fish that include many different species. Catfish varies in size and activity from the three biggest species extant, the Mekong giant catfish from Southeast Asia, the wels catfish of Eurasia, and the piraba from South America. Their names come from their prominent barbels, which resemble a cat's whiskers.
