Hannibal Barca was a Punic military leader and politician who eventually worked in other fields. He is regarded as one of history's greatest commanders and lived from 247 BC to around 183 BC. When Rome established its dominance over other great nations like Carthage, Macedon, Syracuse, and the Seleucid empire, he lived during a time of unrest in the Mediterranean. One of the most well-known Carthaginian generals is him. His most well-known accomplishment was leading an army from Iberia across the Pyrenees and the Alps into northern Italy at the start of the Second Punic War.
