One of the things that aligns woodworkers with furniture making is joints, like dovetail joints, box joints and box joints ... we love to make joints. In this video I am taking the plans from the sharkguard.com website to adapt the box joint jig designed by Lynn Sabin, and putting it on a router table. The plans are pretty much identical to those provided and like most things woodworkers make, there are always a few adaptions and changes, based on different equipment and needs of a client or the woodworker.
The jig assembled well and worked at least as well on the router table as it does on the table saw. In fact, with a fairly sharp bit, the cuts seem to be a little bit crisper and there is less worry about tear-out on the router table. It also seems there is less dust and chips being thrown around ... but more time will be needed to see if this is the case, and certainly dust control could be added easily to this version of the box joint jig.
I must say, I am looking forward to using this jig more in the future base on the initial cuts I have made so far ...
