Casting For Cabrilla Grouper at Bahia Los Angeles, Baja Sur.

Cabrillia Groupers are one of the most fun fish to target in the Sea of Cortez especially around Gonzaga Bay and Bahia Los Angeles. These groupers frequent the rocky shorelines and stake claim to territories around rocky outcrops. They are aggressive and extremely fun to catch by cast stickbaits as close as you can to the rocks and reeling them back close to the surface. One of the best lures we've used is the Prohunter Beito 170mm. Pretty much any color works but the regulars have favored the Redhead and Elton John colors as these seem to elicit the most aggressive strikes. In this video the Bibless BeitoHD 170mm in the Crystal Blue Mackerel color is featured. The Beito's enticing action coupled with it's dense 4.5oz weight makes for extremely long casts. even into the wind. More time in the water means more strike opportunities as these fish will often follow the lure all the way to the boat before hitting.

These fish hit hard so a sufficiently strong rod that can keep them from the rocks is absolutely essential. 65lb test braid and a shock or fluoro leader of 80lb is preferred.
