Everyone above the age of 20 should have their cholesterol checked at least once every 5 years. As a rule, a lipid profile blood test is used as a screening tool. Screening for lipid abnormalities should be increased, and experts recommend doing so for men and women over 35 and 45, respectively.
Cholesterol enters and leaves cells via two distinct types of lipoproteins. One of these is LDL or low-density lipoprotein. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is the other kind. Your blood cholesterol levels are determined via a blood test.
