Physics video, worked example, thermodynamics problem.
An ideal gas is transformed from state A to state C according to the PV diagram below. Assume that 80J of heat flows into the system and the work done by the system is 35J when transformed along path AB
a) Determine the work done by the system along path BC
b) If the system’s state returns from C to A along the isotherm AC, find the change in internal energy
c) If the surroundings do 15J of work on the system along the isotherm, determine the amount of heat added or removed from the system.
d) What is the work done over the entire cycle ABC? Is the net work done on or by the system?
e) What is the heat flowing in or out of the system along BC?
