Sisters Unhinged

Although sisters Paige and Allison Andrews had the same home and the same parents when growing up in Bellmore, New York, that is all they shared.

While life in the shingled split level on Cedar Avenue appeared to be the perfect backdrop for the ideal American family, nothing could have been further from the truth.

The truth was that the sisters were rivals from the start. Even in the early years, Paige, with her bossy demeanor, insisted on constantly telling her younger sister what to do.

Allison stood firm. She was not going to be bossed around and was determined to ignore her sister’s orders.

As the girls grew, so did the animosity between them.

Paige primped herself like a princess. She strived for popularity at all costs. She had to be liked and would stop at nothing to gain approval and acceptance from those she regarded worthy of it.

Allison, on the other hand, was hell-bent on being herself. She loved books and studies and chose them over friends which was a source of ridicule from her older sister.

“Really, Allison?” Paige had pestered. “You’re not going to your first high school dance? What are you…too good…or, you couldn’t get a date?”

Allison ignored the cutting remarks as she always did. It was clear that Paige was disgusted and embarrassed by her “nerdy” sister.

Allison, on the other hand, felt Paige sold out to be popular. She was not being true to herself and that turned Allison’s stomach.

They were as different as night and day. Parents, Brett and Paula, were saddened and perplexed by their daughters' dislike for one another.

They did all they could and then simply gave up. The girls were destined to despise each other.

Through the years, the two sisters married and went about their separate ways even more so.

The bumps in the road of life often made them long for a close relationship but after so much time between them, that was not going to happen…or was it?
