Tying The Governor - Dressed Irons

Step by Step showing you how to tie the The Governor wet fly.

Hook: Mustad 3399, #6-#14
Thread: Danville 6/0, White & Black
Tip: Danville 4-Strand Rayon Floss, Red
Body: Peacock Herl
Hackle: Hen Neck, Brown
Wing: Mottled Turkey, Brown

The Governor is a favorite early season fly. With the Turkey and peacock resembling many different food items and the red tip adds just enough to attract some attention. I chose to tie the Governor this week because of the turkey wing. Turkey can be a difficult material to tie with and the more I tie various wet flies using turkey the more I get to thinking about the different feathers on a turkey and which ones are best for what application. I am in the process of collecting a number of different turkey feathers and doing some research into which are best for what flies. Expect more flies using turkey in the not to distant future. - Enjoy
